| After reading the article "That thou art mindful of him." The bicentennial man and other stories, I learned that technology is prevailing vesting and rapidly. To the point that we are inventing robots to create mimics or "clones" of human intellect. Intellect that some humans are not even capable of withholding. While inventers of robotics like the one in the article may say that robots will never be as intellectual as us, some how I beg to differ. Asimov (1979), notes that humans are petrified that the artificial man created would turn upon its creator. Some may laugh at this but the very though of this happening is very possible. What if human beings were incapable of stopping robots and they somehow managed to take over humans entirely? There are so many people in this world whom are in search of jobs or more education to further their growth and development, although instead of helping people in the world others are taking our money and making "human-like" robots which in my opinion replace human beings. Asimov (1979) states that robots "grow, learn, and mature; equivalent of a child at first and must be under constant supervision…finally it's a member of society". Robots are mimicking humans in a way many never thought possible. Once robots become a member of society millions of jobs will be disregarded thus people everywhere will be suffering. Asimov (1979), notes that "human beings fear and distrust robots because they regard robots as competitors". This I agree with in the sense that humans are suppose to be the most superior life form on this earth, and the thought of another form of human intellect similarly programmed to mimic us roaming the earth is threatening. I find it to be sad that we as humans instead of wanting to better the people that are already on earth (those meant to be here) we are trying to almost extinguish that realm and replace it with some kind of a scary clone. At the bottom of the article it said that the author frequently got rejections for this article and I for one reject it. I do not think the notion of robots with human intellect should even be considered, we are the superior live form capable of doing anything and that's the way it should stay! | ||||||
